Outdoor Cushion Refresh: Classic Cabana Stripes

Here at Slipworks we love a good stripe, especially when it comes to outdoor spaces!

Striped fabric is a classic and versatile choice for different design styles and outdoor spaces. Its clean lines create a sense of order and balance. Depending on the stripe's width and colors, it can give off different vibes – nautical, modern, or Riviera.

Below I’m sharing two recent cushion projects that feature stripes - one with a cabana stripe and the other with a more unique stripe. I’ve also included links to some of my favorite striped Sunbrella fabrics for inspiration.

For this outdoor cushion refresh we used the existing inserts. The original covers had a skinnier stripe, and quite a bit of wear. With new covers, we were able to bring these cushions back to life. Recovering existing cushions is appealing for many reasons:

If you’ve got custom furniture, or furniture that is no longer being sold, you don’t have to worry about trying to find new cushions.
Great for the environment! Although sometimes it’s necessary to buy all new new inserts (thank you squirrels), it’s much better for the environment to keep those cushions out of the landfill and extend their useful life with new covers
It is more cost effective if you cushions are in good shape.

This project was made entirely from scratch! Our customer had purchased outdoor furniture, but it didn’t come with any cushions. We created new inserts - foam for the seats and our outdoor pillow inserts for the backs for a little extra comfort. Seamless stripes for days!
